After a disappointing loss against joint league leaders Chelmsford last time out, the 1s were looking to bounce back against Letchworth on Saturday, to keep up with the pace at the top of the East Prem.
Walden were dominant in the opening 20 minutes and accelerated into a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Tom Crump and top-scorer Spencer Hill, who took his tally to 8 goals in 6 league games. Despite their dominance, the home side were guilty of taking their foot off the gas at the end of the first half, allowing their opponents to grow into the game. However, Walden weathered the storm and held on to the two-goal lead going into half-time. Soon after the break, a great team move led to Alex Newitt powering through the visitor’s defence to score Walden’s third. This lead could have been extended further on a number of occasions, if not for the efforts of the Letchworth goalkeeper.
After the weekends results, the 1s are in a three-way tie for 1st in East Prem only trailing Chelmsford and Ipswich on goal difference, but with a game-in-hand on their Essex rivals.
