The 1s maintained their 100% home record this season with a hard fought 4-2 victory over Old Southendian on Saturday.

The game got off to the worse possible start for Walden as the visitors took the lead within the opening minutes. However, Walden calmed proceedings by taking control of possession throughout the remainder of the first half, but without making that incisive breakthrough.

However they made this dominance count in the 2nd period, Spencer Hill scoring a swift 3 goals through two penalty corners and one penalty stroke. Old Southendian responded with their 2nd goal 10mins from time to set-up a nervy finish. But Walden’s top goalscorer Hill scored his 4th from another penalty corner to seal the victory in the closing stages.

Walden remain joint top of the East Prem alongside Chelmsford, but with a game in hand on their local rivals. Next week is a tough away trip to 3rd placed Ipswich.
